A Great Realtor Isn’t the Only Thing Homebuyers Need

Picking the right Realtor is important, but so is picking the right lender and the right title company. Here’s why.

I was recently joined by Merideth Nagel, the owner and attorney for Concierge Title Services, to talk about the importance of a buyer choosing the right mortgage lender.

The closing process is so important to every real estate transaction, but not all homebuyers understand that. Most buyers will go on the internet, find out which lender has the lowest rate, and hire them. That’s not the way to do it.

If you see a rate that’s too good to be true, it probably is. There will likely be loan origination fees and other junk fees that will make it even more expensive than a higher rate would have cost you.

So many closing delays are caused by lenders not doing what they need to do on time. Merideth has seen many transactions fall apart because of a missed deadline, contract problems, closing delays, and inaccuracies.

When you’re committed to a transaction, having a lender that’s not as committed can be a huge drag. That’s why we recommend lenders that we’ve worked with in the past. We know they won’t charge junk fees, we know they won’t miss deadlines, and we know they’ll make the process smoother.

Picking the right title company is almost as important as picking the right lender. That’s why we always recommend Merideth and others like her.
